Former iflix/HBO Max exec, Jason Monteiro, consolidates his leadership of Warner Bros Discovery’s (WBD) streaming business in Asia Pacific, shedding previous marketing and creative services activities across the region to focus solely on streaming in the global company’s latest leadership structure.
In an internal note seen by ContentAsia today (Monday, 4 Sept), Singapore-based regional boss, Clement Schwebig, said Monteiro would “move fully into his role as APAC streaming lead, continuing to report to JB Perrette, CEO and president, global streaming and games”.
Schwebig is president and managing director of Southeast Asia (incl. Hong Kong/Taiwan), Korea and India – a region dubbed INSEAK.
In announcing Monteiro’s new role, no mention was made of the dotted lines that link the two other APAC-based execs with new roles – Kurt Rieder and Daniel Tan – to Schwebig.
WBD has made no public announcement and it is not clear whether Monteiro will be building his own separate streaming team or drawing from existing WBD resources in the region.
WBD/Max streaming timetable for Asia has not been announced and the company continues to operate existing OTT service, HBO Go.
Monteiro joined Schwebig’s team in June 2022 as head of integrated marketing (marketing/creative services) across the region and all lines of business.
The marketing role was in addition to his coordination role for streaming services, which was announced in May last year.
The streaming co-ordination role, which included liaising directly with APAC teams led by Clement Schwebig and James Gibbons, reported directly to Perrette.
Previously with Shahid/iflix, Monteiro joined HBO Max Southeast Asia in January 2022.
Schwebig’s note today follows Friday’s message from western Pacific president/managing director, James Gibbons.
In his own message, Gibbons announced the exit of Warner Bros China theatrical veteran, Gillian Zhao, and flagged a wider re-org of the China business.
Gibbons said Zhao would be on gardening leave, effective immediately, “as we work through the leadership st...

Other changes communicated to staffers in India, Southeast Asia/Hong Kong/Taiwan and Korea today flow from last week’s reorg of international theatrical marketing and distribution, which is now being managed as a “single, vertical organisation”.
Daniel Tan, head of marketing for streaming, extends his remit to INSEAK networks, affiliate and brand and franchise marketing.
Tan continues to report directly to Pato Spagnoletto, global chief marketing officer, streaming, with a dotted line to Schwebig.
Kurt Rieder, head of regional theatrical distribution, now reports directly to Andrew Cripps, president, international theatrical distribution.
Rieder also has a dotted line to Schwebig, who said in his note that Rieder would continue to be part of his INSEAK leadership team.
APAC theatrical marketing head, Julie Glenn, now reports jointly to Charlie Coleman and Danielle Bekas, EVPs/co-heads of iInternational marketing.
Glenn will continue to oversee marketing for the INSEAK home entertainment and TV distribution business.
Head of APAC creative services, Gab Ayoub, reports to Daniel Tan.
The changes are effective immediately.
