WarnerMedia’s HBO Asia, Taiwan’s Catchplay and Hong Kong’s HKTVE/ViuTV unveiled their 15-part premium drama co-production, “Trinity of Shadows”, this afternoon, hinting at the beginnings of an ongoing partnership that will boost original output of Chinese drama.
The Taiwanese crime drama will go out on 13 June as an HBO Asia Original on HBO Asia/HBO Go at 9pm with back to back episodes, simulcast on Catchplay+ in Taiwan.
HK Television Entertainment’s (HKTVE) ViuTV free-TV channel in Hong Kong will air the show later; telecast details were not immediately available.
The new series allies old partners – HBO Asia and Catchplay – who worked together on “The World Between Us”, and brings in HKTVE for the first time.
“Trinity of Shadows” is ViuTV’s first production in Taiwan, according to Lofai Lo, director and GM of HKTVE, which operates ViuTV.
Catchplay Group chief executive, Daphne Yang, said the new series was part of the company’s “mission to introduce more unique, made-in-Taiwan stories for an international audience”.
She said “Trinity of Shadows” was the first project of “our series of endeavors in producing Mandarin-speaking original content”. No details were disclosed.
The series is about a murder investigation which has similarities to a cold case from three years ago. During the investigation, lead detective (played by Sandrine Pinna), an up-and-coming public official (Kaiser Chuang) and rookie policeman (Kuan-Ting Liu) are drawn together into a dark labyrinth of power play.
“Trinity of Shadows” is produced by David Tang (“The Long Goodbye”) and directed by Bo-Hao Hong (“Dad’s Suit”). The screenwriter is Chien-Ming Huang (“Scoundrels”).
