WarnerMedia is returning HBO Asia original horror anthology series "Folklore" for a second season, scheduled to screen on streaming platform HBO Go as well as on HBO’s linear services in 2021.
The new season, announced today, is seven episodes – one more than season one – bringing the total number of episodes in the anthology to 13.
Today’s announcement follows last week’s reveal of the new WarnerMedia structure in India, Southeast Asia and Korea, with programming and production combined under Magdalene Ew in Singapore.
Production for the hour-long series is scheduled to begin in early 2021 across seven Asian countries.
Episodes will be helmed by a local director in each country – Indonesia (Billy Christian), Japan (Seiko Matsuda), Malaysia (Bradley Liew), Philippines (Erik Matti), Singapore (Nicole Midori Woodford), Taiwan (Shih-Han Liao) and Thailand (Sittisiri Mongkolsiri).
Singapore filmmaker Eric Khoo returns to oversee the second season, which WarnerMedia said today would “ramp up the fear factor as it examines the human condition when exposed to supernatural powers in a mind-bending race against oneself”.
The six countries featured in season one were Indonesia (Joko Anwar), Japan (Takumi Saitoh), Singapore (Eric Khoo), Thailand (Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Malaysia (Ho Yuhang) and South Korea (Lee Sang-woo).
