Eleven-year-old Singapore-based digital video platform, Viddsee, is working on a slate of projects it clearly hopes will boost both its long-form scripted credibility and its ability to attract investment.
One of the three long-form projects unveiled during Mipcom is with the Hong Kong unit of Korea’s CJ ENM.
Although the platform has been involved in long-form production in the past, including sponsor-funded originals and adaptations, the latest initiative was presented at Mipcom as Viddsee’s “first slate of long-form projects and micro dramas”.
The first project on the slate is “Ivy Boys”, an action detective series set against the backdrop of WWII-era Korea, in co-development with CJ ENM Hong Kong and Korean director Paek Seung Hwan (“Inside Men”).
The series is adapted from the creative Web3 concepts of BBRC Studios about a group of fashionable tailors who secretly work as detectives.
Viddsee’s second project is “Fallen Butterflies” (working title), inspired by Sylvia Yu Friedman’s book, “A Long Road To Justice”, and produced by Lillian Victoria Ng.
The eight-episode drama, written by Galen Tong (“Walker, Texas Ranger”), explores the world of the sex trafficking trade through a Korean/American lens, with themes of resilience and hope amid dire circumstances.
The development slate also includes “Siti Vampire” (Siti Sang Vampir!), an Indonesian feature film adapted from a five-episode local comedy series in Singapore.
Indonesian screenwriter Titien Wattimena (“Aruna dan Lidahnya”) is attached to “Siti Vampire” along with creative agency, Katatinut.
A range of micro dramas are under way in Thailand, Singapore and Taipei.
“My Magic Tablet”, the first micro drama in the new slate, premieres in November.
