Taiwan’s GrX Studio has unveiled a US$50-million plan to co-produce 20 TV series and films over the next five years with partners in Asia.
The slate, part of GrX’s “Asia Spring” project, involves 15 Mandarin TV series and five horror films.
GrX’s strategy & chief investment officer, Dennis Wu, said during the announcement at the Asian Contents and Film Market in Busan that “through this initiative, we hope to invite exceptional filmmakers from various countries and regions to collaborate with us”.
The Taipei-based studio said the aim was to “expand our presence across the Asia-Pacific region and establish GrX as a leading film studio in Taiwan”.
Founder Hank Tseng said GrX was drawing inspiration from creative models of U.S. series and collaborations with streaming platforms for its new slate.
“By leveraging this experience, we aim to connect Asian content creators, investors, and regional distributors, creating a hub that analyses market demands and fosters creativity. This business model aligns with current trends, which will enhance the speed and quality of content development, production, and distribution,” he said.
The launch event was attended by the Taiwanese actress Ning Chang and Vietnamese actor Lien Binh Phat from crime series, “The Outlaw Doctor”, which was co-produced with Public Television Service Foundation (PTS) and Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), as well as by talent from “The Photo from 1977,” a film supported by the Hakka Affairs Council, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and the Hakka Public Communication Foundation.
Today’s event brought together investors, distribution companies, IP licensing firms and media representatives from Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and China.
