Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom is investing in Taiwanese drama "The Outlaw Doctor" (化外之醫) in an alliance with public broadcaster Public Television Service (PTS) and local production house, Greener Grass Production.
The 10-episode crime/medical drama, produced by Tang Sheng Rong (“Copycat Killer”) and starring Janine Chang (“The Psychologist”) and Lien Binh Phat (“Running Man Vietnam”), will be filmed in Vietnam with a cast drawn from the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and India.
Filming begins in July, and the scheduled release is in 2024 on MOD and Hami Video in Taiwan.
Committing to ongoing support for local original film and TV content, Chunghwa Telecom said "The Outlaw Doctor" aimed to be “another successful example of cross-border cooperation for Taiwan’s film and television industry”.
"The Outlaw Doctor" about a foreign doctor signals a new direction in Chinese drama, the producers said during a media event in Taipei. Themes include migrant workers, medical care and crime.
The series has been in production for four years.
