Mobile operator Taiwan Mobile is expanding support for local screenwriters, joining with government agency TAICCA in the first programme that gives direct support to Taiwanese writers.
The Commercial Content Creation Talents Programme (CCCTP), which kicks off in the second quarter of this year along with the call for entries for the 2025 TCCF Pitch in November, is being unveiled today as the annual FILMART event opens in Hong Kong.
The programme is valued at about US$100,000.
Two writers will be chosen to receive direct financial support for two years, with an optional third-year internship with one of Taiwan Mobile’s commercial production partners, such as Sanlih E-Television and GrX.
The scriptwriters’ programme comes as domestic players find themselves forced to compete with well-funded global platforms on their home turf.
Taiwan Mobile’s VP of content development, Webber Cheng, says the telco believes “it is imperative to strengthen the storytelling skills for local scriptwriters to be capable of achieving commercial goals not only for Taiwan, but markets outside of Taiwan”.
Taiwan Mobile has been backing local production since 2018 – the first telco to invest in the content market.
