Singapore's Mediacorp is developing three scripts from the joint Taicca/Mediacorp regional screenwriting competition, the company said this afternoon as day one of this year's ATF market drew to a close.
Each of the three winners has been given a NT$240,000 development grant and are working with Mediacorp for further development.
Mediacorp will choose one of the three to produce. No timetable has been confirmed.
The competition, announced in June 2023, invited scriptwriters to submit their original concepts for a Chinese drama series about life and the various facets of love, including but not limited to romantic love.
The three winners were chosen out of 178 entries and were told in September.
The three are "My Ghost, My Love" (见鬼了!我的爱情), which depicts an author’s romantic encounter with a ghost; "Lives at Stake" (EMT 救援事件簿), about a young delinquent’s struggles with life and death as an emergency medical technician; and "Tune Into You" (芭乐清单), about a theatre artiste who is unexpectedly saved from the brink of suicide by love ballads.
The competition includes a series of masterclasses by Oscar-nominated editor Tim Squyres, Oscar-nominated writer David Magee, and award-winning editor Xie Meng Ru (解孟儒), as well as award-winning producer and scriptwriter Liu Wei Ran (刘蔚然) and Taiwanese actress Sonia Sui (隋棠).
