Vietnam’s Chanh Phuong Films open applications on 5 October for its Netflix-backed training programme for young Vietnamese filmmakers.
30 filmmakers will take part in the programme, sponsored by the global Netflix Fund for Creative Equity.
In addition to training by Vietnamese creators, the initiative will support the production of a limited series by the top participants.
The new programme for young, aspiring filmmakers is led by Vietnamese film director and producer, Charlie Nguyen, who highlighted practical training, mentorship and resource to support “unique artistic voices and ignite their creative spark”.
“As they find their voice and share their stories with us, we are helping them discover the courage to pursue their passion and dreams in the world of filmmaking,” he said.
Since its inception in 2021, the fund and related initiatives have involved more than 700 filmmakers across Asia Pacific, including the 2021 Cinema Beauty - Vietnam Creative Economy Grant.
The grant involved 10 filmmakers who created short films about underrepresented communities in Vietnam. One of the films, Pao’s Forest, won the Best Short Film Award at the Hanoi International Film Festival in 2022.
