PCCW Media has tied up with “Crazy Rich Asians” producer SK Global on new premium drama series, “The Season”, the company said this morning at FILMART. The series has an approx budget of US$18 million.
The 45-50 day shoot is scheduled to begin at the end of March.
Seemingly echoing its global rights deal for 2022 blockbuster series “Reborn Rich”, “The Season” will be distributed on Viu across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South Africa as well as to platforms around the world. Distribution specifics have not been disclosed.
“The Season” is created and executive produced by writer/producer Yalun Tu, who has worked with Amazon Japan and HBO Asia and has producing and writing credits on “NCIS: Hawaii” and “Wu Assassins”.
Chilean director Marialy Rivas (“The Jetty”) serves as lead director and executive producer.
The six-part series, described at today’s presentation as a “high-gloss drama”, is set in Hong Kong and follows a group of close-knit friends gathering “for a summer of sun-drenched luxury as boating season begins. But what starts as a glamorous escape soon spirals into a web of deception, power struggles and life-altering consequences”.
“The Season” stars Jessie Mei Li (“Shadow and Bone”); Hong Kong’s three-time Golden Horse winner Karena Lam; Justin Chien (“The Brothers Sun”), and Yvonne Chapman (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”).
