Netflix is returning Japanese blockbuster, “Alice in Borderland”, for a third season.
The announcement was made by Netflix VP of APAC Content, Minyoung Kim, at Media Partners Asia’s APOS conference in Bali this morning.
Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya reprise their roles as Arisu and Usagi in season three, with Shinsuke Sato returning as director.
Based on Haro Aso’s manga series, the TV series is about Arisu after he is transported to a parallel universe in which he has to play and win games to remain alive. The games are divided into four categories represented by suits on a deck of playing cards.
“Alice in Borderland” became Netflix Japan's most-watched title ever, including anime, after the season two premiere in December 2022.
The show was on the top 10 in more than 90 countries, and at #1 in 17 and clocked 200 million viewing hours worldwide.
Speaking about the future of Japanese entertainment, Kim described Japan as “a paradise of imagination”.
She also highlighted a focus on up and coming storytellers to differentiate Netflix’s content choices.
