Entertainment/education platform Migo has opened its 500th download station in Indonesia, up from the network of 100 stations, predominantly in Jakarta, in May this year.
The 500th unit was installed in the city of Depok this month.
Migo execs said today that they were on track for 1,000 stations by year end, rising to 10,000 across Java next year.
The units, installed in convenience stores, enable fast downloads for data-starved consumers, who are able to access a library of content for offline viewing.
Migo said today that it would release a "doubled compression" function next month, allowing customers to download twice as much content on their devices with smaller download file sizes.
Migo’s library includes box office hits, indie production and kids series from, among others, Rapi Films, Legacy Pictures and 13 Entertainment, as well as CBI Pictures, InterSolusindo and Feat Pictures.
Acquisitions announced in July include local box office hits such as "The Raid 1 & 2" and "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta", as well as indie features and Indonesian classics such as "Filosofi Kopi", "Sundel Bolong" and "Pengabdi Setan".
Classic Hong Kong titles, including "Once Upon a Time in China II" and "Police Story III: Supercop" along with content from Fortune Star, Zee TV, Five Star Production, Mono Film, Newko Entertainment and Daehan Drama are also available for download at Migo kiosks.
Various pricing models include a 30-day pass for IDR30,000/US$2, which offers unlimited downloads.
The 500 milestone comes a little over a month after Migo Indonesia announced an investment of US$40 million from Indonesia’s PT MNC Vision Networks (MVN).
At the time, the partners said the funds would be used to accelerate Migo’s rollout to 10,000 locations across Java, covering 100 million Indonesians by the end of 2022.

Speaking at the ContentAsia Summit at end August, Migo's founder and CEO Barrett Comiskey talked about bridging the data divide and serving an under-innovated segment with fibre-broadband-like experiences at a tiny fraction of the cost of high-speed connectivity.
Migo’s Indonesia template is being used to lay the groundwork for regional expansion.
