Malaysia’s Astro is retelling its sooka story to local consumers, pitching the in-house streaming platform as an all-new and expanded on-demand content play starting from RM12.90/US$2.77 a day with lots thrown in for free.
The full service, including sports, is being offered at a promo rate of RM49.90/US$10.70 a month.
The new packs, rolled out this weekend, promise new features, more content and low promotional pricing, with some sooka content for free along with selected channels.
The latest update comes on top of an 80% increase in sooka’s active monthly users this year, Euan Smith, group CEO, said at the launch.
The VIP base grew 55% quarter-on-quarter.
Sooka currently has 1.5 million registered users, 60% of whom access the app on mobile.
“As the demand for flexible, online streaming continues its upward trajectory, sooka aims to deliver highly tailored content, combining live and on demand shows,” Smith said.
Sports remains a sooka staple, with live streaming of Premier League, Liga Malaysia, Formula 1 and NBA, among others.
The streamer will also carry the finale of the “All Stars Gegar Vaganza” (“GV10”) on 10 December and local talent hunt, “Hero Dewi Remaja 2023”, along with the premiere of new series, “Syurga Itu Bukan Mudah”, which will debut on sooka.
