WarnerMedia’s Cartoon Network has added three originals to its Asia-Pacific development slate, including a one-off special that unites two made-in-Asia characters – India’s Lamput and Chinese rabbit Tuzki – for the first time.
The announcement was made during Media Partners Asia (MPA) APOS by APAC kids head, Leslie Lee.
In addition to the seven-minute “Lamput meets Tuzki” special, scheduled to release in mid-2021, Lee has greenlit a fourth season of “Lamput” and is developing a short-form pilot for Warner Bros iconic “Tom and Jerry”, who are being transplanted into Asia for the first time.
“Lamput” season four goes into production in the second half of 2021. The series stars a gooey orange substance that escaped from a secret lab.
Lee says Tom and Jerry’s antics are being reimagined in an Asian context in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank.
The shorts take the duo to Mumbai, Taipei’s night markets and the Australian outback, among other locations.
