Fox’s long-time Taiwan head, Joanne Tsai, has been named chief executive officer of Taiwan’s first English-language international streaming platform, Taiwan+.
The platform, backed by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, launches on 30 August.
The goal is to “facilitate a new dialogue between Taiwan and the global community” and to present the country’s “diverse voices and liberal values,” the company said today.
“Just like Taiwan is an amalgam of ethnicities, cultures and languages, and of different people and things, we hope to faithfully present Taiwan’s blend of robustness, freedom and liberal values to the world,” Tsai said.
Her appointment was approved in a unanimous vote at a board meeting of Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA), which won the bid for the project.
Taiwan+ will carry a mix of news and information on a dedicated website as well as on social media channels, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
Tsai left Fox in mid-2019 after 18 years.
During her time at Fox/Nat Geo, she partnered with Taiwan’s Government Information Office (now known as the Executive Yuan’s Department of Information Services) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to produce “Taiwan to the World”.
The programme aired globally on the National Geographic channels for seven seasons over 13 years.
