Chinese streamer iQiyi will debut its second Thai original series, unscripted/reality show “The Hidden Character” (“THC”), in Thailand on free-TV channel GMM’s One31 and globally on the iQiyi platform on 22 April.
A drama TV spin off is also in the works for iQiyi with a simulcast on a local broadcast network. Details are not yet available.
“The Hidden Character” involves 11 contestants between the ages 16 and 22 living under the same roof and engaging in a series of talent challenges.
The 11-episode series follows iQiyi’s first Thai original, the blockbuster “KinnPorche The Series La Forte”, which released in 2022. “KinnPorche” star, Phakphum Romsaithong (Mile), is host/mentor on the new show, which goes out on Saturdays at 9.30pm (BKT) on One31 and 10.30pm (BKT) on iQiyi.
Both “KinnPorsche” and “The Hidden Character” are produced by Thai production house, Be On Cloud.
Billing the new talent competition show as a “structured, reality show”, “The Hidden Character” producer/director, Poon Kanatip Lucksanapipatkun, said in Bangkok today that the show emerged from the search to find unique characters with strong staying power in the entertainment business.
“How to fine tune all the characters for everyone in the cast, in order to stay in showbiz you have to have a unique character… that's how the project began,” Lucksanapipatkun said at the showcase event.
Today’s event also gave a platform to iQiyi’s latest Chinese supernatural romcom, “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble”, part of the Chinese streamer’s Asian slate for international audiences.
“Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” was released on 15 April during Thailand’s Songkran water festival.
Directed by Lin Kuan Hui (“Secrets in the Hot Spring”), “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” stars Taiwanese Tseng Jinghua (“Danger Zone”) and Vivian Sung (“Our Times”) along with Thai actor “Nonkul” Chanon Santinatornkul (“Bad Genius”) in his first Chinese-speakin...
