Chinese streamer iQiyi has added five Malaysian productions to its global slate for 2022 along with its first Thai original series.
The Thai drama is “KinnPorsche: The Series” about an underworld heir and his bodyguard. The series is directed by Kongkiat Komesiri (“Khun Phan”, “Slice”).
iQiyi’s first Malaysian productions include sitcom “My Ofis”, about rockstar wannabe Jasper who relinquishes his dream and enters corporate life to support his grandmother. “My Ofis” is produced in collaboration with Kuching-based Longhouse Films.
“Rampas Cintaku”, produced with Mig Production, is the story of an undergraduate student who, desperate to clear his family’s debts, takes a job in a nightclub and is lured into life as a “sugar baby”.
The other three series are “Sori Naik Lori” with Tsar Asia, about a housewife whose TikTok video goes viral; time-travel romantic drama “Love You Later” with Juita Viden; and Infinitus Entertainment’s “Restu”, about a recently widowed father and three marriage prospects who need to meet the approval of his grieving daughter.
The new shows are announced as iQiyi counts down to the premiere of original Philippines series, “Saying Goodbye”, on 4 December. “Saying Goodbye” is a story of Ricky and Elise, an unlikely pair brought together by their love for music and adventure.
This will be followed on 15 December 2021 by the global premiere of “Hello, Heart”, a romantic comedy about a beautiful, perky, hard-working but unlucky woman, who finally meets her lucky charm.
The company said today at the ATF in Singapore that monthly users in Southeast Asia had doubled this year compared to last year, but did not disclose actual numbers.
iQiyi also said Korean series, “My Roommate is a Gumiho”, was its most-watched original of the year with 100 million views worldwide. It was not immediately clear how iQiyi defines a view.
