Singapore government agency, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), has supported 28 virtual production projects and trained 650 media professionals via the S$30 million VP Innovation Fund announced in 2023, the IMDA said this morning as the ATF market opened.
Unveiling its refreshed skills framework for the media industry, the IMDA highlighted its ongoing support for virtual production capabilities and training, including Generative Artificial Intelligence, and an extension into an apprenticeship programme with media companies.
As "Singapore’s media market expands, employment opportunities are also on the rise," the agency said.
According to the country's latest manpower survey, there were 24,960 media professionals employed across Singapore's economy in 2023 – a compound annual growth rate of 7% since 2018.
"The refreshed Skills Framework for Media provides a comprehensive roadmap for these media professionals, charting the future of media careers and talent development," the IMDA said.
The new framework identifies 195 job roles across nine tracks, with 230 technical skills and competencies in existing and emerging skills in Media such as virtual production, GenAI, content production and production technical services.
The framework originally launched in 2018 jointly by IMDA, SSG, Workforce Singapore (WSG) and in consultation with Singapore’s media industry.
Opening the market this morning, Tan Kiat How, Singapore's Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information, said IMDA would partner with seven companies to offer over 70 apprenticeship opportunities across content production, business management and technical roles.
