Thai-Korean joint venture True CJ Creations' premieres its first docs-series, "Hidden Gem", on Warner Bros Discovery's Asian Food Network (AFN) on 14 December, kicking off an expanded distribution strategy that takes the slate beyond the True/True ID empire for the first time.
The Bangkok-based production joint venture's originals have traditionally premiered on True services.
"Hidden Gem", a co-production with Thailand's Ryoii Film, is a six-part series featuring one-of-a-kind Thai food personalities and experiences.
Each episode is dedicated to one outlet, including the story of Michelin Cotton Candy, which sells only on the first and 15th of the month; "Joe One Table", a restaurant that has a customised menu for just one table of diners a night; and the family drama involved in "Jaii Noodle 1953"
True CJ Creation's co-CEO, Ari Arijitsatien, said today that "Hidden Gem" was part of a strategy to broaden the company's activities into other genres beyond its drama expertise and to expand its distribution footprint.
The show was licensed to AFN for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as to SBS Australia, Thema SAS and njam! by Matt Ashcroft's Parade Media.
True CJ Creations' mainstay remains its adaptations of CJ ENM dramas. Five remakes premiere on True ID in 2024 –"Start Up", "Emergency Couple", "Lawless", "Yesterday Wife" and "Good Doctor".
