Netflix unveiled the three-minute trailer for coming-soon Indian epic, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”, last night, ramping up the countdown to the 1 May premier of its biggest Indian original so far.
Speaking at the trailer launch in India, creator/director Sanjay Leela Bhansali described the epic series as “a new milestone in my journey”.
The eight-episode series from Bhansali Productions is set in pre-independence India against a burgeoning freedom movement, where the final thread holding the art of courtesans is put to the test.
The series stars Manisha Koirala as Mallikajaan, who rules over an elite house of courtesans, fearing no one… until the return of Fareedan (played by Sonakshi Sinha) heralds an epic battle for the position as head of Heeramandi.
Aditi Rao Hydari stars as Bibbojaan, one of Mallikajaan’s daughters, who joins India’s fight for freedom from British rule, with Sharmin Segal as younger daughter, Alamzeb, who dreams of love with the son of nobleman Tajdar (Taha Shah Badussha) and yearns to break out of Heeramandi.
