Japan’s LaLa TV has acquired rights to Argentinian telenovela “Argentina, Land of Passion and Revenge” for its mid-2022 schedule in a deal between the Dori Media Group and Japanese agency Contents Seven.
Set in the 1930s and 1940s, the series, which aired in Argentina as “Argentina, tierra de amor y venganza”, follows the lives of European immigrants in Buenos Aires after an act of treachery sparks an epic love story across two continents.
Contents Seven has so far acquired 60 episodes of the 201 original series, and will oversee the localisation/subtitles for LalaTV, which is part of Japanese platform, J:Com.
Produced by Pol-ka Producciones, the series became one of 2019’s most watched shows in Argentina, where it aired on free-TV network El Trece.
The Contents Seven/Lala TV acquisition follows in the footsteps of epic Turkish series, “Magnificent Century”, which was picked up a few years ago by Hulu Japan and is still streaming.
Japan has in the past three years been more open than it used to be about foreign drama acquisitions with, among others, Russian zombie drama “The Day After”, Australia’s “Wentworth”, Spain’s “Locked Up” (“Vis a Vis”) from Globomedia/Imagina, and Indian period drama “Porus” from One Life Studios.
