The board of Korea’s public broadcast behemoth, KBS, is expected to announce its pick for new president on Wednesday (4 Oct), ending a bitter dispute over public trust, allegations of bias in news coverage and negligence in handling licence fee collection issues and the growing financial deficit.
In September, the board approved a motion to fire previous president/CEO, Kim Eui-cheol, who was appointed by Korea’s previous administration. Kim’s term still has a year to run.
The final three candidates of the 12 people considered for the role were shortlisted at the end of September.
The three are Choi Jae-hoon (KBS Busan Broadcasting General Bureau reporter), Park Min (Moonhwa Ilbo editorial writer), and Lee Young-poong (former KBS new business planning manager). The board’s final recommendation will be put to Korea’s president Yoon Suk Yeol to ratify.
