As sports events emerge from Covid-19 lockdowns, Malaysian platform Astro has rolled out a one-off rebate for sport pack subs who didn’t get what they paid for over the past few months.
The RM20/US$4.60 rebate will apply over the June and July billing cycles, the platform said.
Given Covid-19’s disruption to the global sports calendar, “the rebate is the right thing to do,” Astro’s head of sports, CK Lee, says.
Sports subscribers have also been given complimentary viewing of all channels on the platform.
Platforms in neighbouring Singapore are not following suit – for now.
Singtel says Premier League has taken the first steps towards restarting the current season, which could return to TV screens “in the next month or so”.

Singtel’s seven-day sports pass costs S$19.90/US$14 a month. The sports plus pack is S$49.90/US$35 a month.
StarHub also said it was encouraged by the resumption of live sports around the world.
The platform offered TV customers a four-day free preview of Bundesliga matches from 15-19 May.
Sports pack subs are also able to switch to a choice of six entertainment packs – including movies – at no charge.
