Asian platforms have turned up the dial on crime, adding titles such as Cream Productions’ "BTK: A Killer Among Us" and Woodcut Media’s "The Killer in My Family" to their 2021 slates in a raft of deals announced today by Canadian distributor, Blue Ant International.
The new crime deals are part of the 950 hours of multi-genre sales over the past six months in China, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia and Japan, the company said on opening day of this year’s ATF online market.
Crime content buyers include linear channel, A+E Networks Asia, Thai pay-TV platform True Visions and Chinese SVOD streaming service, Huan Xi Shou Ying.
"A Killer Among Us" chronicles the crimes committed by Dennis Rader. "The Killer in My Family" looks at families of convicted killers.
Other crime titles making their way to Asia include Arrow Media and Saloon Media’s "See No Evil", which looks at how crimes are solved with the help of surveillance cameras; Spring Films’ three-part docu-series "Prison", about the “human story on both sides of the cell door”; and Bob Brown Productions’ "Fraud Squad: The Hunt", about the investigators focused on theft from public coffers; and Spring Films’ one-hour "How to Stay Out of Jail", which follows an elite police team whose mission is to give criminals a one-off chance to reform.
