Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys topped the list of shows being tracked in Taiwan by data science company Parrot Analytics for the week of 21-27 Oct, streaking ahead of digital competitors by a giant margin and beating overall rivals such as kids series Peppa Pig and anime favourite One Punch Man.
Of the titles being measured, seven of the top 10 are kids shows, including Korean animated series Robocar Poli. This indicates the high appetite for animated/kids acquisitions in Taiwan, which has a vibrant domestic drama market, even if some complain that it’s not as good as it used to be.
Excluding kids titles, K-pop music show, M Countdown, moves into second spot on the top 10, followed by One Punch Man at number three, making way for dramas such as HBO's Westworld at number four, Fox's The Walking Dead at number eight, and Game of Thrones at number nine.
Other titles on the ex-kids list for the week were ESPN/Netflix sports doc, The Last Dance, at number five, South Korean reality show Hangout with Yoo, anime series Haikyu!! and South Korean variety show Running Man.
Other than The Boys and Netflix’s Ask The Storybots, none of the digital originals available in Taiwan broke through the double digit demand barrier for the week.
The top 10 list of digital originals has Netflix at four titles – Ask The Storybots, The Witcher, Emily in Paris and Stranger Things.
Prime Video, CBS All Access and HBO Max had two titles each – The Boys and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan from Prime Video, Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery from CBS All Access; and Raised by Wolves and Doom Patrol from HBO Max.
None of Netflix's Taiwanese original dramas, including The Victims’ Game, appear on the list.
