There was absolutely nothing equivocal about South Korea’s preference for home-grown content, made for broadcast or cable TV, in the week of 18-24 November, according to data science company Parrot Analytics.
Although Amazon Prime Video’s "The Boys", which topped the digital originals list, came closest, it still fell short of demand for the show at number 10 on the top 10 list of overall shows.
If there was a surprise though, it was Amazon Prime Video’s toppling Netflix from the top two spots, with "The Boys" way ahead and "All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur" slipping in just ahead of Netflix’s "Stranger Things".
Netflix’s top Korean original on the list was "Extracurricular", which tied with The Queen’s Gambit for fourth place at 12% ahead of average demand.
Although Netflix dominated the list of digital originals, only two of its Korean shows – "Extracurricular" and political period horror series "Kingdom" – made it to the top 10.
