Astro’s latest premium drama original, “Dukun Diva”, premieres on Monday (6 Dec), with Malaysian actress Nadia Aqilah (“Anak Sena”, “Memoir Karmila”) as Che Yah, a failed 1990’s artist who reappears as a shaman.
Eyka Farhana (“Serikan Hatimu”) stars as her nephew, Lola, in the eight-episode comedy/action series.
Between them, the pair create a set of beliefs and taboos to deceive famous cosmetics millionaire, Datuk DD, played by Emelda Rosemila (“I-Tanggang: Mother of All Lies”).
“Dukun Diva” will air on Mondays at 9pm on Astro Citra and will also stream on Astro Go on On Demand.
The series is written by Alfie Palermo (“J Revolusi”), directed by Ariff Zulkarnain (“Lelaki Yang Dirindui”), and produced by Astro Shaw and Malaysian production house Act 2 Pictures.
The new original is part of Astro’s upsized effort to reshape the platform for a digital environment.
The strategy includes an even sharper focus on local content and aggregating streaming apps for regional and international programming.
Besides “Dukun Diva” and “I-Tanggang: Mother of All Lies” (released Sept 2021), Astro’s original slate includes coming-of-age "Project: Anchor SPM" (Mar 2021), and comedy film “Kampong Pisang Bersiri-Siri" (Dec 2020).
