Mediacorp premieres the first Singapore adaptation of CJ ENM’s Korean mystery singer game show, “I Can See Your Voice”, on 13 January, ending the country’s 20-year dry spell on big-brand singing format adaptations.
The 10-episode programme will air on Mondays at 7.30pm on free-TV channel, Channel 5, and will be simulcast on Mediacorp’s streaming platform, mewatch.
The episodes will also be available on demand on mewatch and Mediacorp Entertainment on YouTube.
The premiere date was confirmed this afternoon, ahead of the 2024 ATF market, which opens in Singapore on Wednesday.
“I Can See Your Voice Singapore” will be hosted by Mediacorp 987 personality, Joakim Gomez, and Bloomr.SG MCN creator, Munah Bagharib.
Resident celebrity detectives are Benjamin Kheng, Gurmit Singh, Najip Ali and Xixi Lim.
Mediacorp’s chief content officer, Virginia Lim, said this afternoon that the original Korean format had been given a bold twist for Singapore audiences.
Mediacorp announced the local version of “I Can See Your Voice” in mid-2024. The last singing-related international format aired in Singapore was “Singapore Idol”, which premiered in 2004 and returned for a second season in 2006.
“I Can See Your Voice” is a long-running favourite across Southeast Asia. Malaysia and Thailand are both on season seven, and the Philippines is on season eight.
The show is one of a slate of content firsts as Mediacorp continues to future-proof the 61-year-old media platform.
The latest developments include the first English-language micro-drama, “Sunny Side Up: Break the Silence!”, which premiered at the end of November on YouTube and TikTok. The 10-episode series was produced by Mediacorp’s in-house division, Mediacorp Studios, with Tan Wei Lyn as EP.
The micro-drama follows Mediacorps premium drama series, “Unforgivable”, which pushed the boundary on dealing with abuse and sexual violence on prime time free-TV. Two versions of “Unforgivable” were cut – one for streaming platform meWatch and another for free-TV network, Channel 8.
