09 December 2011
This year\\'s Asia TV Forum wrapped in Singapore today with a resounding thumbs up for the new venue, full meeting schedules, positive comment about the number of buyers on the show floor and the rooftop infinity swimming pool, optimism about new platforms and opportunities in Asia, and plans already being made for ATF 2012.The new relationship with Reed Midem in Europe was a talking point from the market\\'s mid-point as execs from both the Singapore and French operations announced plans ? including a commitment to more networking opportunities and fostering closer ties between producers and funding ? for the annual Asia event. Complaints centred around patchy broadband connectivity in a country that prides itself on its high-speed connectivity, a noisy conference area and acoustics that \\"made it a bit difficult to hear\\", the long walk to affordable food options, the distance to the convention centre from the Marina Bay Sands hotel (from delegates in Tower 3), and, more generally, the high costs of being in Singapore. More than one participant commented on the number of people on the floor on day two. \\"Previous ATFs were usually empty by the second day,\\" said Radio Televisyen Brunei\\'s head of planning and TV broadcasting, Shaikh Hj Hanafiyah. The number of walk-ins was surprising, said All3Media\\'s Paul Corney, who has just shifted to an all-digital role from his previous Asia remit. Kelly Shek has taken over finished programme sales for Southeast Asia and Sabrina Duguet is now vice president of format sales everywhere except China. GMA Philippines Jocelyn Go also said there was more foot traffic on the floor this year. Distributors said Asian buyers were looking for higher quality productions than in past years ? and seemed to be willing to pay for it. Others reported a hunt for lower-cost content alternatives.
