“Dramas dominate our content sales for Asia, followed by English-language Lifestyle programming from our U.S. channel, Z Living. Our future focus will also be our home-grown Zee Format Factory formats whose latest production includes the English adaptation of the popular Zee TV 1990 series, Hum Paanch. We have 20 episodes this new series, titled Lala’s Ladiez, which is produced in the U.K. by Endemol Shine. We are also presenting the Moksha game show inspired by another Zee TV popular show, Saanp Seedi.”

“We are in discussions to partner with Asian broadcast, distribution and production companies and look forward to announcing deals soon. Our latest factual series, Life of Earth from Space, produced by Talesmith in association with the Smithsonian Network, is in production and will soon be available for pan-Asian licensing.”

“All our content is produced in HD and we have produced 4K series in India. We are anticipating the growth of, and investing in, 4K content.”

Trends & Outlook

“In 2017, the demand for Indian Content grew tremendously in Asia. Interest in our dramas came from Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines & Cambodia; new Digital platforms improved the viewer’s palate, offering new genres of films; Lifestyle content found new distribution avenues in China. It has been a very promising 2017. For 2018, we are prepared for markets that prefer to produce local content, successfully adapting our scripted shows and the formats of our reality shows which are available for licensing. Thus, along with local productions, our focus will be formats of scripted and non-scripted shows.”

Asia focus in 2018

“Given the range of our content, our markets vary as per the content on offer and of interest. Our dramas will continue to be of prime interest in Southeast Asia. Far East markets will be interested in our reality formats. The Asian English-centric markets will be our focus for our U.S.-produced lifestyle and factual content. We also expect to grow with our partners in the OTT space, developing a cohesive model of content availability and viewing habits.”
